// shared catalog — one product, every site
If you run more than one site — locations, franchisees, a group of brands — the same product is currently typed out several times and drifts apart within a month. Keep it in one place instead, and let each site take what it sells.

One has last year's description. One has the good photo. One still lists a size you stopped doing. Nobody did anything wrong — they were three separate copies from the day they were made, and copies drift.
// how it works
The product lives once — its description, its photos, its specifications — in a catalogue above the individual sites.
Each site adopts the products it actually sells. Nothing is copied, so nothing drifts.
One location prices differently, or has its own photo. Change that field there — the rest keeps inheriting.
Edit at the hub and every site updates, except the fields somebody deliberately made their own.
// the part that usually breaks
Sharing usually falls over the first time somewhere needs its own price, or its own photo, or a line about local delivery. The usual answer is to unlink that product and go back to maintaining it by hand.
Here the override is per field. Brunswick sets its own price and keeps inheriting the description, the images and everything else. Each field says whether it is shared or local, and a local one can be reset back to the shared value whenever you like.
// vs. keeping them in step by hand
// link them up
