// till — card machine setup

Connecting your card machine to the DiscoverWorthy Till

Once your card machine is connected, the till sends the amount across by itself. Nobody types it in twice, and nobody can type it in wrong.

You only do this once per till. It takes about two minutes.

Before you start

You need:

  • Your Linkly username and password. Linkly email these to you when your account is set up. They are not the same as your DiscoverWorthy login.
  • Your card machine, switched on and connected to your shop's wi-fi.
  • The tablet running the till, connected to your shop.

If you have more than one till, do this on each one. Each till connects to its own card machine.

Step 1Get the code from the card machine

On the card machine keypad:

  1. 1Press FUNC
  2. 2Press 8 8 8 0
  3. 3Press Enter

The screen shows a pair code — six digits. It only lasts a few minutes, so go straight to the next step. If it disappears, just do this again for a fresh one.

If the machine says RESET PAIRING?, it is already connected to something else. Press Enter to disconnect it, then repeat the three steps above to get your code.

Step 2Type it into the till

On the tablet:

  1. 1Tap Today & settings at the bottom of the sell screen.
  2. 2Enter your owner PIN.
  3. 3Tap Settings, then Card machine.
  4. 4Fill in your Linkly username, your password, and the code from the card machine.
  5. 5Tap Connect.

That's it. The till will say “Connected. Card payments will go straight to the machine.”

Step 3Try one sale

Ring up something cheap and pay by card. The amount should appear on the card machine on its own. Tap a card, follow the machine's prompts, and the till should show the sale as paid.

If it does, you're done.

Taking a payment from now on

Ring the sale up as normal and tap Card. The amount goes to the machine; the customer taps or inserts their card there and follows the prompts on the machine's own screen.

If a customer has to sign, the machine will say so and print a slip. Check the signature against their card before handing over the goods — that check is what protects you if the payment is later disputed.

If something goes wrong

“Those details didn’t match.”

The username or password is wrong, or the code has expired. Codes only last a few minutes — get a fresh one with FUNC, 8880, Enter and try again.

“Couldn’t reach the card service.”

The tablet can't get online. Check the wi-fi. Nothing has been charged.

“Check the card machine to see if that payment went through.”

The till lost contact partway through and cannot tell whether the customer was charged. Look at the card machine before charging again — this message exists specifically so nobody gets charged twice. If the till is closed and reopened, it checks again by itself.

The payment says it didn’t reach the machine.

Nothing was charged. Press Card again.

You need to go back to your old way of working.

Settings → Card machine → Your own card machine. Card payments go back to being taken on your bank's terminal and recorded on the till, exactly as before. Nothing is lost, and you can reconnect whenever you like.

Turning it off, or moving to a new machine

Settings → Card machine → Disconnect the card machine. To connect a different one, get a pair code from the new machine and go through Step 1 and Step 2 again.

One thing worth checking

If you were given test credentials to try things out, the till shows a red line saying “Set up on the test system — no real money will move.” If you ever see that on a till you are trading with, disconnect it and reconnect with your live details. A day of test payments looks exactly like a day of real ones until the money doesn't arrive.
